Caring For Your Cat's Ear's

Did you know that cats' ears are one of the cleanest parts of a cat's body? Cats' ears are normally very clean so an at-home cleaning is simple using a small amount of veterinary ear cleaner and a cotton ball.

Immediate signs of an infected ear are obvious. If there is any wax or irritation in your cat's ears, it's time to go to the vet. If it's a young kitten, there is also the possibility of ear mites. An adult or older cat sometimes will have yeast in the ear that can create wax buildup.

There are some initial physical signs to watch for when cleaning your cat's ears. An allergy in the ear can become reddened or inflamed that is warm to the touch. An infected ear will be moist and full of pus. Both are a signs that medical help is needed. The longer a problem goes untreated, the more scar tissue forms and the harder it is to cure.

Simple ear cleaners that work well to clean the waxy or oily ears won't help an infection and may further irritate allergic ears.

Make cleaning your cat's ears a weekly item in your cat-grooming schedule. Doing so will ensure your cat stays healthy and happy for years to come.
