NEW HOME UPDATE: I left the shelter two weeks ago and my new owner and I are quickly becoming best friends. I love being around him all the time. He is teaching me new tricks and bought me a jacket that looks great on me. Our favorite thing to do is go to the park where I have lots of room to catch treats in the air! I love having space to run around instead of being in a kennel. Also, my name is now spelled Midnite, pretty cool huh? Thank you to everyone at the shelter for helping me find my new best friend and to everyone who voted for me! - Midnight

I was brought to the shelter because my owner was badly neglecting me. I was very emaciated and had not received veterinary care in a long time, if ever. The shelter got me healthy and ready to be adopted. I am a gentle giant and even served as the "PSPCA Ambassador" which means I got to meet all of the new animals that come to the shelter to see how they react to other pets. Even when they barked or scratched, I kept my cool and acted like a diplomat. I love to play and am quite the athlete. I can't wait to play catch with my new owner!

Midnight's Favorites:

Favorite activity: Playing "treat football" and catching treat "passes"
Favorite toy: Anything I can catch in the air
Favorite food: Chicken and rice

Strong likes: Football, working as a "PSPCA Ambassador"
Strong dislikes: Owners who mistreat pets

Household Notes: I love other animals and am very patient with children. I don't get upset if others touch my toys or food.

This is the coolest dog in the world! I miss seeing him around the shelter, but I'm glad he went to a great home....he deserves it!

What a great ambassador. This dog renews our hope in changing one dog's life through compassion and intervention by people who care. Glad he has a home to call his own.

I love Cocker Spaniels but am very angry about Denver law against having pit bull dogs. In my life time I have seen several breeds listed as dangerous encluding Cockers at one time.

Glad he got a good home.........I have a soft spot for Pittie breeds, misunderstood for the most part. Happy he has a chance to be a role model.

I didnt know denver had a law against pitbulls, how stupid is that!huh! Do they have a law against people who abuse their pets and do they enforce it like they do against pitbulls? I certainly hope so.Its the people who make the dogs what they are, they only live what they learn, and they learn by power of example.I am enraged to find that pitbulls are banned ,when it should be people who abuse them should be banned.Chew on that denver.

Midnight rawks! I'm so happy to hear that he has a home now-- thank goodness that the "Big Black Dog shelter syndrome" (for some reason people pass over the big black dogs--even the best dogs!--in shelters) didn't stop this gentle giant from getting his happy ending! Hooray!

not too crazy about the breed for myself but OMG how can anyone mistreat ANY dog. I hope his owners paid dearly for his neglect. Theres no reason a dog should go without food I would give my last meal to my dog if one of us were to go hungry

He looks like an adorable dog. So glad to see that he was adopted.

What a wonderful dog!! Sooo happy he found a home. Some people shy away from big, black dogs especially a pit mix; but Midnight's true personality won him 1st place in someone's heart. Best wishes in your forever home. Proud Mom of 6 Furkids Dover, PA.

I am so glad that Midnight got a good home. It is hard for big black dogs & espically being a Pit Bull to get adopted. I hate to see any animal being abused. God told us to take good care of HIS creatures. The abusers should be abused in the same way they abuse. Blue Ridge,GA.

I am so glad that Midnight was adopted. He looks and sounds like a great dog. We've adopted black dogs too and they are wonderful. All ten of our dogs have been rescues and have all been wonderful. I'd adopt again in a heartbeat. Good luck Midnight in your forever home.

Congrats Midnight for finding a great home. I have a BBD (big black dog) too and I love her to pieces!!

Midnight is the best dog ever! Look at that face! He's so handsome.

Eileen March 5, 2009 3:50 PM

What a great dog! How dare anyone neglect him. I am so glad he has found a good home & a good owner!!!

Kim March 6, 2009 10:02 AM

I also have a rescued pit lab mix. He's 70 lbs. of love. He's handsome and looks like midnight except he's dark brown with white chest and paws. He's the love of my life just like I'm sure Midnight is to his new owners. People are so ignorant when it comes to this loving breed. Long live the PIT BULLS. It's all about how they are raised. Give them lots of love and they while return it right back.

I love you, Midnite! What a handsome handsome boy!!!

Jay March 8, 2009 1:08 AM

I don't understand the reasoning behind people not wanting black dogs. That is my preference!! I have a lab/mix who turned alot of whitish all over her body when she was 2 & 3!! My mom thinks maybe this is terrier hair sprouted....i put it to stress with losing her best doggie pal who was 10 when i got her, so she only had her mama figure 2 yrs. I'm glad this Midnite found a good home. I think any dog can be vicious, depending on how treated or if neglected, no matter the breed. Sure am glad he found a home.
