Puppies Behind Bars

Puppies Behind Bars is a program which trains inmates to raise Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever puppies to become service dogs for the disabled and explosive detection canines for law enforcement.  Recently, petside.com visited Otisville Correctional Facility in upstate New York in order to see first hand how these amazing puppies are changing lives inside and outside of the prison walls. Find out more about the puppies in this program and learn how Puppies Behind Bars are helping wounded U.S. soldiers.

Great! Nothing gives our hearts a lift like the fostering we do on both sides of the bars. Your life just glows brighter when you can work/play with your guestdog. And when he/she gets a forever home it hurts...but this lets another dog get out of a cage or come in off the streets and get this fosterfolk love. We're on guest #33. bob

This is a wonderful program; it is perhaps the only time some of these men have felt good about themselves; I believe that the men get just as much out of this as do the dogs. The dogs do teach unconditional love.

I would love to hear more about this and all the stories. It seems like a win/win for everyone. Just look at the guy in the picture - he appears to really love working with this dog. Very cool and please post more on this story as it becomes available.

I really think we should have alot more of these programs around the world. I think they are wonderful for both the community and the inmates.

Thank you!
