Breed Profile: Newfoundland

The best friend a fisherman could have, this gigantic furball, the Newfoundland, was bred to work the sea. The dog may have originated when the Great White Pyrenees was bred with local dogs from the Canadian island of Newfoundland.

There isn't a better breed of family dog in existence than the Beloved Newfoundland. I can not recommed a Newfoundland enough times. Our Newfoundland was so vital as a family member. We rasied our Son's across the street from a State Park. It was almost a ideal place for young growing boys. Our youngest Son at the age of 3 was with us on a family walk around the pond. Before we could ever think, he toppled head-first into the broken edge of the ice still gathered around the edge of a small dock. we reached forward to go after our young Son, but before we ever fully said a single word, Our Newfoundland had moved like greased lighting and pulled our Son out of the ice. She grabbed him by the collar on his jacket and had him on dry land in under 2 seconds. Our Son was 100% fine and our Newfoundland had a loving home for all of her days. YES! Find a Newfoundland and your kids will always be safe. No one messes with a child with that big of a loyal companion.
