Preparing For The Cost Of Emergency Care

If your cat has a health emergency and your vet's office is closed, what do you do?

Emergency care vet facilities can cost up to twice as much as a regular vet visit but sometimes there isn't an alternative. Here's how to cut down on those costs.

Ask your vet what their policies are in emergencies. Some vets will respond to an emergency while others will refer you to a local emergency clinic after hours.

Purchase pet insurance. Most pet insurance policies will cover emergency procedures (minus a deductible), which can help reduce your out of pocket expenses.

If you don't have pet insurance, put a small amount of money away each payday in an emergency health care fund that you can use if your cat has to rush to the emergency vet.

Emergencies happen and when they do, it's best to be prepared. Proper planning and care for your cat will result in a lifetime of savings.
