i totally agree that older shelter dogs are at higher risk. everyone wants puppies! its so true that older dogs come with all the pluses:housetrained, neutered, know basic commands already. these dogs need a second chance. my best experiences have been with dogs two yrs and up.

I love October for Adoption month. Great time of the year just before the holidays and winter. However, I wish more article would inbrace of how many older dogs are in the shelters and how they need homes too. Not just puppies. Older dogs many times are already trained, great with kids and are more appreciative to time, attention, and activities with the family. These are the dogs that are at a greater risk in the shelters. Please help supporting Adoption month by finding forever homes for our older shelter dogs, not just puppies. Help the pet population, please spay or neuter your pets.

Thanks for the reminder. I adopted Snoodles in February, and Snarley, two weeks ago, both older dogs. Snarley was a rescue dog. Both give me joy, laughter and comfort. I am so glad, that I adopted them.
