It’s no surprise that McLachlan tops out our list of Top Animal People for 2012. (Seriously, can you even make it through one of her commercials without making a donation to the ASPCA?) Her tireless work with the ASPCA is reason enough to make the list, but this year there’s another cause near and dear to her heart, as well. In April of this year McLachlan, along with PETA, contacted Canadian Prime Minister Stephan Harper with a proposed exit strategy for seal hunters.
Fortunately much of the world is on-board with stopping the travesty that is seal hunting. With multiple bans being placed on seal products, approximately 90% of Canada’s seal product exports have been eliminated.
