In the metric system, a kilo is the base unit of a mass. In Justin Becker’s Staten Island, N.Y., home, Kilo is a red nosed pit bull that saved him and his girlfriend from an intruder. Becker told Petside.com that shortly after his girlfriend arrived home one evening, a man dressed in a FedEx uniform knocked on their door and told them he had a package. “He said his pen wasn’t working and asked if he could borrow one,” says Becker. “He also said he was afraid of dogs and asked me to put my dog up. I just had my girlfriend hold him.”
That was a good move because when Becker turned back toward the door with the pen, the man had a gun. In a flash, he tried closing the door, but the man was caught between and that’s when Kilo lunged and was caught as well. Kilo ended up taking a bullet to the head while protecting his family. The bullet ricocheted off of Kilo’s skull and lodged in his neck. “I’m thankful he saved my life, came to my rescue, he’s a great dog all around,” Becker says of the 12-year-old dog, who has fully recovered
