The Korat is known as the blue cat of Thailand. Korat is the name of a northeastern province in Thailand. The Korat cat is also known as Si-sawat which means “Color of the Sawat Seed.” In 1959, the first Korat kitty-kat arrived in the U.S. This rare cat breed boasts luminous, ethereal, large green eyes that appear out-of-proportion on their face. Their thick fur is short and blue with silver tips that capture light which creates a halo effect or silver sheen. Though sensitive to sudden and loud noises, Korats themselves can make quite a racket. Like Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction, they will not be ignored. If you dare try, they may shriek like a banshee.
Fun Fact: Korats are known for living long healthy lives. The oldest Korat in the U.S. lived to the impressive old age of 24.
