Located in Mena, Arkansas, the Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary is a premier sanctuary for horses. It is one of the longest running and most successful facilities for horses in the United States. Melanie Sue Bowles founded the sanctuary 20 years ago with the help of her husband, Jim, and intervened on behalf of more than 400 horses.
Melanie says, “We started the sanctuary because we saw a need; abused, elderly and neglected horses needed a place to go where they could heal.”
You can read about the beginnings of Proud Spirit in Melanie’s first book, The Horses of Proud Spirit.

Journey is exactly where he is supposed to be. I'm happy to hear that the Florida family put his needs first and let him go live at the Proud Spirit. It must of been very difficult for them.
