The dogs are kept in indoor/outdoor enclosures with heated floors and cats are kept in kennels inside the HWAC building. HWAC also places animals in foster homes throughout the San Diego area. The organization has about hundred foster parents and 1000 volunteers. There is never a shortage of volunteers to walk the dogs or care for the cats.
