Pet Encounter Therapy (P.E.T.) program brings the healing benefits of animals to people in hospitals, abused children's shelters, psychiatric facilities, and senior centers. Groups also have the option of visiting the Center for on-site programs. HWAC staff and volunteers take dogs, rabbits, birds, or guinea pigs to visit more than 45 facilities a month. Most of the animals in the program come from neglect or abandonment and are rehabilitated into the program.
