In late March 2012, a young and beautifully colored cat, with burns covering over 60 percent of her body, was dumped outside the MSPCA-Angell Animal Care and Adoption Center in Boston. The staff members immediately rushed her inside where veterinarians examined her and began treating her injuries.
The cat, who came to be known as Bernadette, stole the hearts of the shelter veterinary team with her sweet disposition. Much of her fur on her back and face, including her whiskers, had been singed off. Nobody knows who or what caused her injuries that were consistent with fire. Thanks to the dedicated veterinary team that began treatment with pain medicine and antibiotics, Bernadette recovered fully. After just two weeks at the adoption center, she was adopted into a wonderful new home.
