Meet the Nebelung, a Rare and Beautiful Cat Breed

The Nebelung is a young and rare cat breed that can be found in the United States, Canada, Europe and Russia. The cat possesses a coat very similar to the Russian Blue, except that it is longer. The length of the coat, which appears misty or fog-like, may have been the inspiration for the breed's name. The name Nebelung is a result of combining the German word "Nebel" (meaning mist or fog) and the title of a medieval Germanic epic poem, the Nibelungenlied. The epic poem tells the story of a dragon-slayer named Siegfried, which was the name of the male cat that all Nebelungs in the United States can trace their ancestry back to.
