The Mudi hails from Hungary, where it shares roots its fellow Hungarian herding dogs the Puli and the Komondor. The Mudi, like many Hungarian herding dogs, almost became extinct during World War II. During the war, the breed suffered terrible losses, and it wasn't until the 1960s and 1970s that the breed started to be rehabilitated.
