#6 Valentine's Day

Love is in the air on Valentine's Day! And chocolate and flowers don't hurt either. That is, unless you're a dog or cat. Foil-wrapped chocolates in heart-shaped boxes can be severely dangerous for pets. Chocolate can be deadly if consumed in large amounts. But smaller amounts can also have side effects including vomiting, diarrhea, and excessive thirst.

Additionally, there are many types of flowers that are toxic to pooches and kitties (such as lilies), and don't forget those roses have sharp thorns.

If you are looking for the perfect gift for a loved one on Valentine's Day, try to resist the temptation to give them a kitten or puppy. Taking on a pet is a huge responsibility, one that should not be forced upon anyone who may not be ready. Instead, first discuss the idea with your partner.
