The name of this Chinese dog breed, “Shih Tzu,” means lion. The dog was bred in the Forbidden City of Peking to look like a lion, as it is associated with the Buddhist holy being. It is the oldest of the Tibetian holy dogs. They were then developed by the Chinese court and became pets. (photo: jimw)
