The second annual Brooklyn Mutt Show celebrated the mutts and rescues of the borough that loves its dogs and brought in some amazing canines with plenty of personality to make the crowd roar with laughter. Held at Park Slope's Brooklyn Lyceum, the show featured contests like Best Beard in Brooklyn, Best Kisser, Cutest Puppy Under 7 Months Old, and more.
"People in Brooklyn love their dogs," Regan Fishman, the energetic and enthusiastic host and director of the event, told Petside.com. "After I heard about the ugliest dog show in London, I thought we should do something like that. We let anyone come and compete, but we really try to get rescue dogs to send the message of rescue, rescue, rescue." Fishman even mentioned toying with the idea of a cat show, but joked, "I don't really know what we would have them do."
The show bennefitted The Toby Project, a targeted spay and neuter initiative that seeks to end the killing of more than 10,000 dogs and cats each year in New York city municipal animal shelters by preventing the births of unwanted dogs and cats. The Toby Project delivers free and low-cost spay and neuter services to all five boroughs of NYC using mobile surgical vans.
Kissing Contest
The three judges of the Best Kisser contest were looking for the sloppiest, wettest, most passionate kiss. This cutie named Player is 7-years-old, and sometimes needs a blow in the face to get him kissing.
