Melanie and Jim made the decision to stop eating meat several years ago after educating themselves about the cruelty of factory farming, including the dairy industry.
“I could no longer walk down the aisles of our grocery store without giving serious consideration to where all the cartons of milk and neatly packaged steaks and pork chops came from. In a different era, when we lived with the animals that provided our food or at the very least, actually knew where it came from, we had more appreciation for the food on our tables," she said.
"I'm not suggesting that everyone should be vegetarian, but there are humane options," she added.
