This is a widely held myth. Often, dogs that appear to have been mistreated because they cower or avoid certain people do so because they were under-socialized. A nervous pit bull's backstory might not be as harrowing as it appears ... perhaps he's jumpy around tall men because he never had a chance to meet tall men!
