Sarge the pit bull died in July 2011 aged 17, just two years after Kim Wolf took him in after he was rescued him from an abused home.

For 14 years he was allegedly the victim of abuse, but Wolf came to rescue him and give him a brand new lease on life.

“We treated him with respect and viewed him as a family pet, something he likely had never experienced,” says Wolf. “We gave him the medical care he desperately needed, and did everything possible to keep him comfortable and pain-free. But we also challenged him.”

For two years she worked with him as a certified therapy dog with Pals For Life in Wayne, Pennsylvania, visiting nursing homes and hospitals and bringing joy to the people in them.

“When elders saw us carrying Sarge through the door with his geriatric dog bed, the elders would say to us, ‘I know that feeling,'” says Wolf.

And he was honored before he died, with an award from the Pennsylvania SPCA at their annual "Good Dog Gala" fundraiser, and at Francisvale Home for Smaller Animals' Holiday Hair-Ball annual gala.

God Bless you for making Sarge's last few years the best he ever had. I've known people with pit bulls and they are the sweetest dogs. It's the owner who needs to banned from owning these great dogs if they can't treat them right and stop them from training this breed to be mean,it's not just this breed that are trained to be mean but it seems that they are getting the wrong end of the stick and that's just wrong!!!!
