25 Pet People of 2010

25. Elayne Boosler

When it comes to animal welfare, comedian Elayne Boosler doesn't joke around. She founded Tails of Joy in 2001 to raise funds for the smallest, neediest rescues all across the country.

Despite the downturn in the economy, her nonprofit provided dozens of grants this year to rescue groups and even expanded its reach to help individuals struggling to pay for veterinary services and pet food. "Rescue is also about helping people," explains Boosler. "Nothing helps people and animals more than making it possible for them to keep their pets instead of giving them up."
