2. Ellen DeGeneres

When funny woman and animal lover Ellen DeGeneres visited Foothill Unity Center, which provides help to low income families and the homeless in the Los Angeles area, she was surprised to learn about its newly-opened pet food bank.

"So many people are losing their jobs and having to give up their animals because they can't afford to feed them," explains Linda Taubenreuther, a spokesperson for the center.

DeGeneres immediately put in a phone call to the organic pet food company she co-owns, Halo Pets, to provide the bank with 5,000 meals.

The comedian's goal this year is to donate one million meals to shelter pets and raise awareness of the need for pet adoption. As a part of that goal, she's partnered with another of our Pet People, Mimi Ausland (#8), the founder of the meal donation site, Freekibble.com to get those meals to pets in need.

I guess it's okay to disappear shelter animals and foist them off on other people when they become too difficult (against the agreements made with shelters) when you write a big enough check. Cool.
