Academy Award winner, Kevin Costner, shared a luxury jet this summer with some unlikely passengers. Dozens of dogs from overcrowded California shelters -- including Shih Tzus, Miniature Pinschers, Chihuahuas -- were being transported to the Edmonton Humane Society in Alberta where the tiny pups are in high demand.
"Kevin, with his love for dogs, decided to help out as he recognized that dogs [in California shelters] are being euthanized at an astounding rate," says Jan Folk founder of The Orange Dog, an e-tailer of sustainable products for dogs and their owners.
Folk says 'Freedom Flights', like the one Costner and Daisy (his 10-year-old Labrador retriever) joined in June, are funded by profits from the retail website.
All of the dogs transported that day found new loving homes within just a few weeks, she says.
