Top 10 Pet-Friendly Colleges
Top 10 Pet-Friendly Colleges
It's back to school time, but that doesn't mean pets have to stay behind! Petside.com has ranked the Top 10 Pet-Friendly Colleges in the U.S.
To determine the ranking, Petside editors considered the types of pets permitted in university housing (allowing dogs and cats was preferred) and the type of housing and number of units included. Points were also awarded based on the size of the school, the number of years the school has allowed pets, and considerations made for any required deposits or weight/breed restrictions.

I have mixed emotions about this policy. So many students I have seen adopt pets while in college. After graduation, the pet may or may not be able to go with the adopter and they are frequently left with other students. On our campus there is a very large feral cat population as a result of cats simply being left outside with the hope that others will care for them. What happens to the pet during spring break/holidays/other times when the student is not on campus?? An alternative would be to have a "resident" pet that is cared for by a permanent employee/resident counselor. All could enjoy the pet and there would be someone who is responsible for the pet. Maybe the college environment is not the best place for personal pets.

I think it is a great idea! My son calls alot to "talk" to his dog and it is so sad to hear him miss his buddy so bad.
