Happy Endings: Sticky the Cat Finds New Home: Arrest Made
Yesterday, some fantastic breaking news widely circulated around the Internet. I do so love happy endings to stories about animal cruelty, and this is one that will "stick" with me for quite a long time as I am sure it will with all animal lovers.
It was just only the other day that I wrote about the beautiful tabby kitty who was so cruelly wrapped in duct tape, and how a rather substantial reward of $2000 was offered for the capture and conviction of the perpetrator of this brutal crime. This story touched a huge number of people and "Sticky" won the hearts of thousands of animal lovers around the country. In fact, PSPCA received $2,075 in donations by people who mentioned "Sticky". This was an amazing response to a kitty in need!

While a handful of calls claiming ownership were received, according to Liz Williamson, the spokesperson for The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, (PSPCA), none seemed legitimate since no one followed through. Ms.Williamson said, "They were given the opportunity to come in and meet with our officers and prove ownership. Only one person even set up an appointment and that person did not keep the appointment."
However, more than 100 requests were made to adopt the adorable kitty who had endured such a blatant act of torture, and were considered on a first call- first serve basis. A family that wishes to remain anonymous has now provided a forever loving home for "Sticky". This said it is not known if this family will continue to call her Sticky. I do hope that this generous and loving family will ultimately come forward and end the mystery.
To make this good news even better, James Davis, a 19-year-old Philadelphia man, was arrested on suspicion of executing this crime. According to the Associated Press, Davis, if found guilty, will face both a sentence of two years in prison and a minimum fine of $1,000. In commenting about Davis, Ms. Williams said, "He did not have any previous convictions or complaints related to animal cruelty,"
The delicious icing on the cake is PSPCA reported that since the "Sticky" case made such an impact on animal lovers, the number of cats adopted from the shelter rose nearly four-fold over the previous year at this same time. PSPCA staff attributes the increase to the huge amount of publicity that Sticky's case engendered.
It is indeed heartening to know that cruelty to animals is finally being recognized as serious crimes which warrant more than just a slap on the wrist. I am far more optimistic that law enforcement personnel will persist in the arrest and conviction of those who inflict torture on these innocent creatures.

The people who did this should rot in jail for the rest of their pathetic lives.
We should tape duct them !
Sickos !!

I am so glad they are finally punishing people who do this with just sentencing! Too long have they gotten away with these cruel acts! It touches my heart to know that even though sticky's situation was a bad one it came out of it in a good position and also helped the shelter adopt out many homeless cats! Its truely a gift!
no name October 2, 2009 12:26 PM
who ever did this to sticky, poor thing, should have their genitals go through the same "sticky" problem....see how that feels.
Angela Munoz October 2, 2009 12:33 PM
Good for sticky and her new family, where can I see happy pictures of sticky? that one breaks my heart big time.
Animal Lover October 2, 2009 12:35 PM
That person is sick and horrible!!!!! How would he like it if we duct tape? Animals are just like people, they have feelings, too. How would they like it if we did to them what they did to the animal(s)? I just HATE people who abuse animals!!!!!!!!
Barbara October 2, 2009 12:46 PM
What an awful and pointless piece of cruelty,it must have taken a long time to wrap the poor cat up like that and I'm sure the cat would put up a struggle so this is premeditated crime no doubt about it. I hope he gets the maximum sentence and fine and I hope there's a gang waiting to greet him when he goes into prison and comes out. I can't help hoping the family changes Sticky's name and stays anonymous so that she can settle down and enjoy a normal loving home.

I am so glad that this story has a happy ending. I do understand why "Sticky's" new family wants to remain unknown. We have a rather unusual cat who had a harrowing experience. He has become very special to us and is very close to our hearts. His story appeared in the local newspaper, including the information that he loves to walk on lead and ride in the car. It used to be we were un-noticed but now we can barely go anywhere without people stopping us and fawning all over him. His former owners even tried to get him back from us once they realized what a character he is. Being an unknown has its perks. Thanks for the update.
Vicki October 2, 2009 1:24 PM
I'm glad they are ounishing this creep, but two years is not long enough. He needs about twenty years and wrapped in tape the whole time.
Amy October 2, 2009 1:40 PM

rachael October 2, 2009 1:54 PM
Horrible! So how did you get the tape off?
Lana October 2, 2009 2:06 PM

Horrible but a happy ending! I am so glad to hear that Sticky's situation touched so many people and some good came out of it. Glad Sticky has a new, loving home. xo.

I hope the SOB rots in jail....he needs 50 years in the cage and lets go ahead and wrap him in tape as well. Jerk!
Frances October 2, 2009 2:31 PM
Duct taping then throwing the perp in jail to rot would be a good punsihment, however I have much better ideas for this person that I cannot mention. It does involve ducttape though!
jmuhj October 2, 2009 2:41 PM
Thank God this beautiful cat has a loving, forever home and I do hope they give her a good name.
As for the criminal, I'd love to off him; but in lieu of that, give him at least the maximum sentence, and maybe a fellow inmate will save us all a lot of trouble and money, and do it for us.
Amy October 2, 2009 4:52 PM
Sticky's story has helped find new homes for many cats and kittens. It's shame it takes a story like this to open the hearts of people. Cats especially over a year old have a hard time finding homes when they are just as cute and funny as kittens if people would just give them a break. People consider all options when when looking for a forever pet. This includes all critters looking for a home.I say "yea" Sticky and may you have a long warm loving home where you are now.
jock4hire October 2, 2009 8:18 PM
Not enough time for the crime, but at least they'll lock him up for awhile. What about the Vet bills incurred? Wishing Sticky the best in his forever home!
Ruth from England October 3, 2009 5:57 AM
I'm glad Sticky has a new home and I'm glad they've caught the sub-human who did such a cruel thing to a defeceless animal. I hope he gets the maximum sentence ....wish I was the judge !!!!
Sticky October 5, 2009 8:23 AM
Sure glad they got that waste of skin;hope there's some "surprises" waiting for him in Jail !!
annie October 11, 2009 11:50 PM
i'm so happy this is having a happy ending. hope sticky has a wonderfully long, loving life.
katie December 5, 2009 10:11 PM
I'm doing a speech on what we can do to help reduce animal cruelty/ pet abuse. It's horrible what people do to poor pets. I have two cats: Shadow and Goldy. They mean the world to me and I could never hurt them or bare to see someome hurt them.

FlagThe only thing I can think of to ease the removal of the duct tape would be to use "goo-gone". It would at least ease the suffering caused by removal of the tape.
ReplyBrittany Nault July 4, 2010 9:27 AM
Flagdid they take the duct tape off her?
Replycarole July 22, 2010 9:55 AM
Flagno, i'm sure they left it on so she could continue to suffer. duh

FlagI am so sorry to hear this story, but I am very happy to hear Sticky has a new loving home. I am a pet lover and am not sure how or why there are people out there who want to be cruel to animals.

FlagI think it's a sad day when people are more upset about a cat being tortured than a child being abused. Although I believe animals deserve our respect why do more people get angry at pet abusers than child abusers?!
ReplyMolly July 13, 2010 7:46 AM
FlagWho says they are? An article about a poor cat being abused makes you think it takes anything away from child abuse? Get a life!
dillo August 3, 2010 11:48 AM
Flag"people" (I guess and argument could be made about the "humanity" of someone who enjoys torture) who torment and kill animals end up as serial killers so plenty of attention should be paid to locking animal abusers up--open your eyes Julie Raven. . .
Chris August 4, 2010 10:36 AM
FlagDon't you think most abusers and such started off abusing animals? People get just as upset at child abusers but usually these types of people start with abusing animals. Sad part is, animals can't speak for themselves!
zed August 9, 2010 10:57 AM
FlagAbuse of animals is a gateway to the abuse of people. It is a proven marker for a sociopathic disorder that eventually leads to the torture and murder of people. Extensive studys of mass murders like Gacy and Dahmer as well as others shows a scary president where the murders practiced their craft on innocent animals before the urge to kill people became unbearable! So yeah...we need to take car of the animals on this planet, and we need to watch those who would want to do harm for no reason other than their own pleasure.
EMR August 11, 2010 11:41 AM
FlagSociologists have proven that children who abuse animals grow up to commit serious offenses as adults (animal abuse and child abuse go hand in hand). Acts of cruelty toward animals are the first signs of a violent pathology that will later include human victims. So animal abuse is not just the result of a personality flaw in the abuser, but a symptom of a deep mental disturbance. Children who have been victims of domestic abuse will turn their anger and frustration toward powerless animals.
John August 18, 2010 8:56 AM
Flagit's an even sadder day when humans have to defend caring for an abused animal at the hands of another humans to another HUMAN!
What kind of world are you living in that you can even question this story?
marlene Gallegos July 8, 2010 7:27 AM
FlagThis is so sad to see. I can't believe that a human being can be so heartless. Look in the mirror and decide who you want to be. Kind and gentle or an ignorant ASS!
Replycarole July 22, 2010 10:02 AM
Flagheartless? in the news lately, there was a couple, for "their own amusement", duct taped their own child to a wall. the child was roughly 14 months old. millions of people are plain and simply f*#@ked in the head. in our own neighborhoods.
Marie July 12, 2010 7:44 AM
Flagwhat a b*****d it sickens me to know that there are such people out there inflicting pain and suffering to animals kids and other people. I think he should be first locked up then taped up like the kitten was hung upside down and then left to the other inmates to decide his fate... blessings and love to the kitten.
ReplyJane July 13, 2010 7:55 AM
FlagI do everything I can for animals in need including donations. However, once a person committs an act of cruelty against animals, I believe they will progress to humans eventually. Also, I would like to see a picture of sticky without the tape as well. Good luck Sticky!

ReplyWhat could have been going thru his mind when he was doing this. This person needs help, which I hope he receives while in prison. If not he could come out of prison much angrier. Then who knows what he may be capable of doing.

FlagPoor cute kitty- he must be so scared. Poor thing has no idea what is going on. How is the tape going to be removed??? Please keep us posted on the progress of this, I want to see the kitty happy with his new owner. That horrible human being should be ashamed of himself. Put in in jail ad starve him.

ReplyC. McKelvey August 8, 2010 8:30 AM
FlagMaybe we should send rolls of duct tape to the prisoners of what ever jail this sicko is going to......then the prisoners can inflict the same torture as this low life did too the poor kitty!
ReplyRobin August 8, 2010 1:07 PM
FlagThis is such a hearting story. I do animal rescue myself, and live in the country, and we are forever finding animals abandoned at our local dump. I am truly glad crimes against animals are being seriously punished. It has been proven that a person who tortures or abuses an animal will go on to do so to humans. Glad little Sticky has found a loving new home.
Replyzed August 9, 2010 10:10 AM
FlagIt has been proven that people who torture and eventually kill animals have a greater tendency towards violent crimes against people. Gacy, Dahmer and other serial killers all started their crime spree by killing and torturing animals. I think that the police needs to look into individuals who perform these sick acts and keep a close eye on them...they *WILL* commit another violent crime..and the next time it may be someone's child!
Replydkhofstl August 10, 2010 9:40 AM
FlagI'm glad for the happy ending and the trauma wasn't too bad for the kitty. I have to agree with others comments, tape up his gonads and set him in jail for a good while!

FlagSuch a cruel act on the little kitty. Happy he/she was adopted by a loving family and happy the bad person was caught.

FlagIn jail, have inmates wrap this cretin in duct tape so he gets a small taste of what this cat went through.
ReplyEMR August 11, 2010 11:27 AM
FlagThis story just breaks my heart. Just this week I've read two stories about animal abuse in WA state. One Chow mix was cut clean into two pieces with a machete like blade and a border collie was found with plastic zip ties wrapped around 3 legs - one of which had to be amputated. The criminals who did these things have yet to be caught.

FlagI wouldn't want to be in his shoes when he meets his maker. He is going to have a tough time explaining that one away. Anyone who abuses the poor innocent helpless trusting animals is evil in my book. I think his punishment should be stiffer still. 5-10 years seems more appropriate to me for such a crime.
