Happy Endings: Sticky the Cat Finds New Home: Arrest Made

Yesterday, some fantastic breaking news widely circulated around the Internet. I do so love happy endings to stories about animal cruelty, and this is one that will "stick" with me for quite a long time as I am sure it will with all animal lovers.

It was just only the other day that I wrote about the beautiful tabby kitty who was so cruelly wrapped in duct tape, and how a rather substantial reward of $2000 was offered for the capture and conviction of the perpetrator of this brutal crime. This story touched a huge number of people and "Sticky" won the hearts of thousands of animal lovers around the country. In fact, PSPCA received $2,075 in donations by people who mentioned "Sticky". This was an amazing response to a kitty in need!

sticky-cat.JPGWhile a handful of calls claiming ownership were received, according to Liz Williamson, the spokesperson for The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, (PSPCA), none seemed legitimate since no one followed through. Ms.Williamson said, "They were given the opportunity to come in and meet with our officers and prove ownership. Only one person even set up an appointment and that person did not keep the appointment."

However, more than 100 requests were made to adopt the adorable kitty who had endured such a blatant act of torture, and were considered on a first call- first serve basis. A family that wishes to remain anonymous has now provided a forever loving home for "Sticky". This said it is not known if this family will continue to call her Sticky. I do hope that this generous and loving family will ultimately come forward and end the mystery.

To make this good news even better, James Davis, a 19-year-old Philadelphia man, was arrested on suspicion of executing this crime. According to the Associated Press, Davis, if found guilty, will face both a sentence of two years in prison and a minimum fine of $1,000. In commenting about Davis, Ms. Williams said, "He did not have any previous convictions or complaints related to animal cruelty,"

The delicious icing on the cake is PSPCA reported that since the "Sticky" case made such an impact on animal lovers, the number of cats adopted from the shelter rose nearly four-fold over the previous year at this same time. PSPCA staff attributes the increase to the huge amount of publicity that Sticky's case engendered.

It is indeed heartening to know that cruelty to animals is finally being recognized as serious crimes which warrant more than just a slap on the wrist. I am far more optimistic that law enforcement personnel will persist in the arrest and conviction of those who inflict torture on these innocent creatures.

Sickos !!

I am so glad they are finally punishing people who do this with just sentencing! Too long have they gotten away with these cruel acts! It touches my heart to know that even though sticky's situation was a bad one it came out of it in a good position and also helped the shelter adopt out many homeless cats! Its truely a gift!

who ever did this to sticky, poor thing, should have their genitals go through the same "sticky" problem....see how that feels.

Good for sticky and her new family, where can I see happy pictures of sticky? that one breaks my heart big time.

That person is sick and horrible!!!!! How would he like it if we duct tape? Animals are just like people, they have feelings, too. How would they like it if we did to them what they did to the animal(s)? I just HATE people who abuse animals!!!!!!!!

What an awful and pointless piece of cruelty,it must have taken a long time to wrap the poor cat up like that and I'm sure the cat would put up a struggle so this is premeditated crime no doubt about it. I hope he gets the maximum sentence and fine and I hope there's a gang waiting to greet him when he goes into prison and comes out. I can't help hoping the family changes Sticky's name and stays anonymous so that she can settle down and enjoy a normal loving home.

I am so glad that this story has a happy ending. I do understand why "Sticky's" new family wants to remain unknown. We have a rather unusual cat who had a harrowing experience. He has become very special to us and is very close to our hearts. His story appeared in the local newspaper, including the information that he loves to walk on lead and ride in the car. It used to be we were un-noticed but now we can barely go anywhere without people stopping us and fawning all over him. His former owners even tried to get him back from us once they realized what a character he is. Being an unknown has its perks. Thanks for the update.

I'm glad they are ounishing this creep, but two years is not long enough. He needs about twenty years and wrapped in tape the whole time.

I hope the SOB rots in jail....he needs 50 years in the cage and lets go ahead and wrap him in tape as well. Jerk!

Frances October 2, 2009 2:31 PM

Duct taping then throwing the perp in jail to rot would be a good punsihment, however I have much better ideas for this person that I cannot mention. It does involve ducttape though!

Thank God this beautiful cat has a loving, forever home and I do hope they give her a good name.

As for the criminal, I'd love to off him; but in lieu of that, give him at least the maximum sentence, and maybe a fellow inmate will save us all a lot of trouble and money, and do it for us.

Amy October 2, 2009 4:52 PM

Sticky's story has helped find new homes for many cats and kittens. It's shame it takes a story like this to open the hearts of people. Cats especially over a year old have a hard time finding homes when they are just as cute and funny as kittens if people would just give them a break. People consider all options when when looking for a forever pet. This includes all critters looking for a home.I say "yea" Sticky and may you have a long warm loving home where you are now.

jock4hire October 2, 2009 8:18 PM

Not enough time for the crime, but at least they'll lock him up for awhile. What about the Vet bills incurred? Wishing Sticky the best in his forever home!

Ruth from England October 3, 2009 5:57 AM

I'm glad Sticky has a new home and I'm glad they've caught the sub-human who did such a cruel thing to a defeceless animal. I hope he gets the maximum sentence ....wish I was the judge !!!!

Sticky October 5, 2009 8:23 AM

Sure glad they got that waste of skin;hope there's some "surprises" waiting for him in Jail !!

annie October 11, 2009 11:50 PM

i'm so happy this is having a happy ending. hope sticky has a wonderfully long, loving life.

katie December 5, 2009 10:11 PM

I'm doing a speech on what we can do to help reduce animal cruelty/ pet abuse. It's horrible what people do to poor pets. I have two cats: Shadow and Goldy. They mean the world to me and I could never hurt them or bare to see someome hurt them.
