Unwanted House Guest: Hush Puppy's Dilemma
While this story about our uninvited houseguest may not be considered "newsworthy", or a "hot off the press" item, I am beginning to wonder if Hush Puppy, one of our Oriental Short hair cats, has become proficient in using my Blackberry to gain access to the Internet when we are sleeping.
I started considering this possibility shortly after Vincent came to visit. I will share my reason for my suspicious nature later on in this saga.
Vincent has been hanging around our home for a couple of weeks now. He spends his time divided between the master bathroom and the kitchen where we have a bowl of fruit handy for snacking. He seems to especially love those ripe, sweet bananas. We have been desperately trying to evict him, but he is one determined and skillful intruder.
So you may ask, "Who is Vincent and why are you so determined to be rid of him?"
It is very conceivable that some of our more "mature" readers may have already accurately guessed to whom I am alluding. Our Vincent was named in honor of Vincent Price, the star of the original movie, "The Fly".

Vincent is a housefly who constantly flits around our bathroom mirror, buzzing in our ears, flaunting his undaunted spirit. He appears to enjoy teasing us for our inability to capture him. I know he is thumbing his nose in delight as he watches our futile attempts. Of course, at the same time, we are earnestly listening for any sounds of those chilling and frightening pleas of "help, help!", with which those of you who are familiar with the film totally recall.
Not only is he completely brazen, but the other day he was sufficiently nervy to flitter into our bedroom where Hush Puppy was fast asleep. The first thing he did, in an apparent act of defiance was to "buzz" around Hush Puppy's ears. This leads my husband and I to suspect that Vincent may have an unconscious death wish.
Awakened from his deep slumber, Hush Puppy instantly jumped into action. Paws raised, tail lashing, hind end shaking excitedly, he leapt into the air, sadly to miss his mark. Like a trapeze artist, he repeatedly "flew" back and forth between the bed and the dresser, following Vincent like a hawk, stalking him as deftly as a wild jungle cat in pursuit of its prey. Vincent laughed in his face alighting on the ceiling out of reach, sadistically taunting our very frustrated kitty.
Poor Hush Puppy, embarrassed and despondent, his ego deflated, hopped back onto the bed, curled up and went back to sleep. Purrhaps he will remember the episode only as a bad dream.
But if Hush Puppy is using my Blackberry to "surf" the "net", he needs to again watch, "The Cat and the Fly", Simonscat's brilliant and popular video, for further clues to finally be able to capture Vincent and restore our household to sanity once again.

I seriously doubt Tigger is as good at tracking prey, but like puppy, he would give it his best try. I just really enjoyed reading about puppy's skillful attempts to cath this intruder.

Something as small as a fly will not survive long with 7 cats and 3 dogs in this house, But it is great stimulation for their minds and bodies.

poor hush puppy! i know the frustration of having a 'vincent' in the house! i have had one here for several weeks. it's quite annoying to be sleeping soundly then having 'vincent' buzz close to one's ear.
YOUR vincent not only flies at your house, jo, but he also magically teleports to my house in between times. :::::smile:::::

Ditto what Amy said! I always open the front screen door in the AM to see if it's cool enough outside to let the 5 cats look out without making my air conditioner run "more." Every time, it seems, some creature happens in. Mouse will track that puppy (pardon the pun) until it is dead dead dead...as evidences by the various corpses on my bedroom window sill. The afternoon sun come in strong at that window, so the worse Mouse has to do is to wair until buggy is drawn to that heat and BAM! Dead critter. They catch spiders if I show them to them (or before I take them and put them back outside.)
Sometimes when it rains, we get tiny tiny ant inside, less than 1/2 in length and skinnier than an embroidery thread. You know a cat has spied an ant when you see one of them staring INTENTLY at assumingly nothing on the floor, but sure enough, you walk over, and it's an ant. So I squish it (they don't like that..the cats I mean..well actually the any probably doesn't like it either :::grins::: but kitty is always mad that I took his "wild game" away.
My beloved Flakey that I lost in April 2008 was particularly adept at finding the ants. AND...one time when there was a mouse in the house, Flakey just stood and stared at one cabinet door in the kitchen. Sure enough "evidence" was found...I left that cabinet open when I went to work, and either one of the 6 cats got it, or when I sealed the pipes under my sink, I sealed him out instead of in.
It's always something with these kits..and ya GOTTA LOVE IT.

From flies to ants (whose scent my furmily love to roll in, btw) to no-see-ems to crickets, all bugs are welcome (for a short time) here.
And I couldn't help but ask: does Puppy Tweet, by any chance? ;)

When Vincent (or his family members) visit my house, they take their lives in their hands, or errr wings, perhaps? Rao, as big and solid as he is, goes flying... and I DO mean flying... through the air and though it may take a few leaps, feline wins over fly, every time. My Baby is also a leaper and chaser, although his favored prey is the rare but hapless tree frog that makes it in through the front door. Baby will play and pounce and release and play until the poor mini-Kermit gives up the ghost. And then Baby picks him up and drops him at my feet and says "Meowmy? Make him move! Make him move again"
But of course, I never can.

Time flies like the wind. Fruit flies like bananas.

Tallulah loves to play with the flies....and when she is done, she has a snack. LOL Holly, my pit mix also snaps at them and usually catches them. :)

Vincent had better watch out,Hush Puppy will have him one day !lol Autumn is approaching here and it's daddy long legs and spider time aaaghhhhh. Walter has us in stitches doing his Rudolf Nureyev impressions, bye bye daddy long legs.Jozef is our spider man, if he spots one on the wall or ceiling he shouts 'meow, lift me up' and every night without fail at bedtime, he has me carry him upstairs hoisted high 'crocheting' on my arm lol and checking for spiders !He sleeps on my bed and before we put the light out, he checks the ceiling ....

I think we all have had a Vincent in our homes one time or another. It is not very nice when the Maine Coons decide to gang up on him and chase him around the house. Nothing is safe during these times. Lamp, dishes, books and what ever is not nailed down is fair game. And of course if one sees him the rest soon will. It is fun and nerve racking to watch. No so fun when I have to clean up a mess they created when chasing Vincent around the house.

I bought an www.unlockiphone22.com last week and yesterday when I put a movie onto iPhone and click play, the phone give me a warning that he cannot play video in that format. I think I need to convert the movies to iPhone supported format first. So how can I deal with the conversion? Can any one recommend a powerful and free converter for me ?
