The Black and White Kitten: A Miracle Adoption
Stories about "coincidences" which seem to randomly occur online always capture my interest. I am particularly enamored with stories pertaining to animals. Of course I am of the opinion that while we may think that we are searching for that purrfect furry companion, I suspect that somehow these pets have their very well developed radar working full blast and they find us. Of course the proof is in the pudding, so to speak, and I think that this little "tail" certainly gives a lot of credence to my suspicion.
One of my internet pals, and blog mentors, JJ, also known to the blogosphere as Astaryth, is also a very talented photographer and writer. Since networking is very popular with bloggers, we get to meet some of the most amazing people, and learn so much about their interests and hobbies.
JJ, a follower of the blog, "Putting the Fun in DysFUNctional", found a delicious entry with compelling photographs of some adorable kittens a few weeks ago while reading the entry, http://luvmydoxies.blogspot.com/2009/04/wordful-wednesday-kitten-edition.html. She also follows the blogger on Twitter where she read a "tweet" that these fostered kittens were being neutered and spayed in preparation for an upcoming adoption event. JJ contacted her since she lived nearby, to tell her that one of the kittens had already made paw prints on her heart.
Visiting the local PetSmart where the adoption event was being held, she saw the little black and white kitten, and after holding her, it took only a nanoseconds to decide that the little tuxedo ball of fur had captured her heart; a permanent loving home had been found.
Of course, a very special name was in order. Taken from the Greek Mythology, she was named Nyx, (the primordial goddess of the night). Of course her tiny paws will grow big enough to fit that very powerful moniker. It seems that Nyx felt totally at home from the very moment she arrived at her permanent new digs.
In her email announcing her new family member, she wrote, "My husband just laughed and laughed when I got home. I've almost exclusively had black cats all my life. My D.K. which I had lost to cancer at 13 two years ago was a tuxedo. I had said when I was ready for a new kitty (yes, it took a long time) I was going to get something besides black, and -definitely- not a Tuxedo because I miss D.K. so much.
"Nyx walked into our house and into our hearts. There was none of the usual getting used to being in a new place. She came in, checked the place out, and within an hour it was as if she had always been with us. Her foster Mommy obviously did a wonderful job of giving her confidence in herself. She is just a delight and makes us laugh and laugh. She and Morgan, our Corgi, accepted each other within minutes of her coming into our home and they are both my little loves, and I look forward to many years of love, laughter, and joy from the two of them."
Now I ask you, isn't this just one of the most magical adoption stories you have read? I do believe that "when the pupil is ready the teacher appears." I bet that Nyx has already taught JJ a few things. Nyx has reminded me that remaining open to a window of opportunity to receive the love that a pet can offer, (even if in our rational minds it is not something we might consider), that we have been chosen. It is a good thing to surrender to that magic.

Nyx is just adorableness personified, what a little cutie-pie.
Several years ago, My Baby came into my life and home and heart. I was actively looking for a Ragdoll or Ragamuffin who needed a home. I happened upon a msg board at a rescue site, by a woman had gotten Baby from a reputable breeder but with changes in her job, was suddenly unable to give Baby all the attention he deserved. We corresponded online, spoke on the phone, and decided this was a win/win/win situation for her, for me, and for Baby. We each drove halfway across the state and met and I took Baby home. We gently introduced him to our DSH marmalade tabby, who was accustomed to being an Only Cat, over the last 4 or so years. Baby is entirely part of our family now.
And here is the truth, as I see it: I will never again adopt a cat who isn't a ragdoll or ragamuffin. I've met dozens of them now and I am in love with this breed, every bit as much as you, Jo, love your angular, athletic Orientals.
P.S. If you see me fall for and adopt some other breed or mutt kitten, you can make me eat my words!

Boy have I ever. Two years ago I wanted a Puggle. My husband and I drove for an hour and half to meet the lady selling them. When we got there she also had a litter of St. Bernards. My husband fell in love with one of them, so she came home with us. Her name is Ellie Mae. Sometimes I look at her and tell her she is the biggest Pugggle I have ever seen.

What a wonderful story. I fight and fight the urge to add to my group, but my daughter that was going to take my cats should anything happen to me is moving from Ohio to Florida...so I think I better stick with 5 for now. I want to contact our local no kill shelter to see if for a monetary donation, they will take my cats after I'm gone and find homes for them. Until I can do that, I don't feel it's fair to add to the group. (Besides, Mouse would have a hissy fit! LOL) But I LOVE Nyx..who could resist that face. I sure hope she keeps us updated with photos as he grows up!

Nyx looks a lot like my Rani, who was languishing in a cage at our vet's office after I had lost my beloved Simba tuxedo/Siamese. The vet tech told me she'd found her and her sister on the street, and adopted her sister, and would I be interested in seeing this kitten? Well, my Simba's spirit told me to "take this kitten home, and give her all the love you would be giving me if I was still there with you in physical form". So I did. Not a day passes that I don't thank my Queen Simba for ensuring that Rani is here in my life!

P.S. To Donna: You can see an attorney and have written into your Will or Trust a provision directing a bank, or your law firm or lawyer if (s)he agrees, to use your funds to care for your cats as you stipulate, for their lifetimes. This is an excellent way to ensure their care and your peace of mind.

Thank you again for telling Nyx's story so well. She is an absolute love, and it is so amusing to see her and Morgan playing. Morgan weighs almost 30 pounds, and Nyx was 1 1/2 pounds. Yet they have a wonderful time together. Nyx has no fear, and you can just see Morgan being so careful not to hurt the 'baby'

What a gorgeous kitten !! It's strange how fate decrees what happens,we are supposed to have choices but we many a time don't lol For 35 years now our kittens/cats have just come along, entered our hearts and our home and we were lost.

Nyx has found a wonderful loving home. I myself prefer adopting kittens/cats that are rescues. There is not one "pure bred" among the seven I have right now. Each of these were adopted from my vets office who works with 10 Lives in finding forever homes. My oldest pair are 6 year old sisters Tasha and MIssy, next in line are 2 years old sisters Ginger,Patches and Sandy and finally are 10 months old Dot The Snot and her sister Freckles.
So you see I have to be very careful when I visit the vets's office because I never know what I might find. I know if my home were larger I would probably have more than I have right now. Right now they have lots of room and adding anymore would put a cramp in their personal space.
But rescues are always at the top of my list when looking for another pet thats needs a good home.

sometimes its more like they chose us or that was how it was for me. you see last april just days after my bday i had to put my loving cat of 14yrs boots down because she had cancer. this cat had been with me throw the worse times of my life, from helping me deal with the abuse i dealt with due to my father to highschool woes and when i became ill myself and found out i had a brain tumor this cat was by my side. she would lay on my head and pure and licked my tears when i cried i love her so when she became ill i would get home from work at 4am and lay with her in our back room. on her last night with me i took her to my room and let her sleep in my bed. i have never cried as hard as i did the day we put her down and i swore i would never get another cat but that didn't last and a month ago i begain to look for a kitten. i found a women online who had a litter of kittens she just couldn't keep. one was black and white and looked so much like my boots i fell in love with her and agreed to take her. so me and my boyfriend jumped in our car one day and drove over 4hrs to pick this kitten up. we live in cincinnati and the kitten was in cleveland. when i saw her it was love at first sit and i rode in the back with her home. this kitten took to me so fast and stayed on my chest. when we got home though i begain to get sick from the car ride and being 6months pregnant. she just sat there and licked my face as i threw up. i knew she was the kitten for me right then. since we brought her home she is always at my side and loves to lay on my head at night. she is so much like boots but also her own kitten. i know in my heart it was a high force that helped me find this kitten who knows maybe boots had a paw in it all i know is i love the thought of spending many years with this loving little girl who we have named bella.
