Dog Writers Contest!

Prior to 1935, most newspapers assigned sportswriters and general reporters to cover d*g shows. That year in February, the Dog Writers Association of America (www.DWAA.org) was born, in conjunction with the Westminster Kennel Club’s annual show in New York. Today more than 500 professional writers specialize in canine topics and are members of the DWAA. Many of the contributors writing articles or blogs here at Petside.com belong to this stellar organization--I’m proud to be a member.

The Maxwell Medallion award

DWAA sponsors an annual contest to recognize outstanding communication of the previous year that focuses on d*gs. More than 60 categories cover everything from canine magazines, newsletters and club publications, print and online articles, columns, blogs, podcasts, television and radio productions, books, photographs, poetry and more. The prestigious Maxwell Medallion is awarded to winners in each regular category, and additional trophy and cash prizes are offered in corporate sponsored special categories.

The entry deadline is August 31st, 2008. If you love d*gs, and write about them, or know someone who does, let them know about DWAA and the upcoming contest. It’s a way to spread good information about these creatures we love.
