CATLESS, AU-NATURAL TREE THIS YEAR

My au natural, minimalist, ornament-free Christmas tree
As you've seen from past blogs, I love all things cat, and own, or have been gifted with numerous items of cat paraphernalia. So it's no surprise that moi would have a zillion cat ornaments for the tree.

You won't see this Tabby cat on the tree
Still, a funny thing happened this year. I trimmed the tree with lights, and I stepped back. And I liked what I saw: nothing. Just the lights and the tree. It was unadorned, but really nice. And at that moment I thought, I'm going to leave it...leave the tree au natural...and enjoy the minimalist look.

These painted puddies won't be swinging on any branches

This cat in the hat will be a cat in the box this year
I've never done this in all my life, but I put away all the ornaments. It felt strange. But kind of invigorating. My husband said, "Fine. It looks fine." But the cats were a bit put out...since obviously, there was nothing to swat...no hanging ornaments to pull off and break. On the other hand, I didn't have to lock them out of the livingroom this year, (to ensure they didn't obliterate everything.) And they could go and sit under the tree's branches as though they were spending a winter's night outside in the forest, with just the white lights overhead like stars twinkling. So there's a lot less stress this Christmas.
So here are the rest of the baubles you won't see on the tree this year. And, who knows, maybe next year as well.

I'll give my heart to this puddy next year...maybe

"Well, if I'm not hanging around, maybe I'll go to Acapulco, then."

This cat won't even notice. He's too busy playing with yarn
