" A lot of people see a puppy and of course, "oh look at this iddy biddy thing, it's so cute" But, this is perfect, right here in showing how much love an older dog can give.5 plus would be generally what generally be considered what an older dog would be. As for as a cat, cats live a little bit longer than dogs do, so an older cat would be approximately 8 years old. I just adopted Lil a couple of weeks ago. I originally had taken her home because I had felt bad. She had been in the kennel for a long time and I felt bad for her. So I was encouraged by some of the staff, they said 'oh why don't you take her home and foster her', so I said of course I will do that. Anyway, hence I brought her home and my husband and I fell in love with her and she now belongs to us. One reason why Lil was brought back was because people move, so there is a variety of reasons, and a lot of times you will see the pets coming back like Lil who is now at age 6.An older dog would be good for anyone. The only recommendation I have is to make sure that you talk with an adoption counselor and make sure that the dog is good with children. That's always something that we always check when a dog is brought in and it's a dog that is unknown we have to check it's behavioral issues. So having an older dog you can get just as much love, if not more, and just the gratification is invaluable."
