What Could Be The Cause of my Dog Having Swelling around the Eyes & Jowls?
Q: My boxer, female and nursing, has developed swelling around the eyes and jowls What could it be?
A: Swelling around the eyes and jowl does sound like it could be an anaphylactic (allergic) reaction. It is hard to say what could have caused the allergic reaction. We see this type of swelling, and sometimes even hives, after bug bites, vaccine reactions, etc.
It is very important to get any pet with swelling in the face to the veterinarian. An anaphylactic reaction must be treated so that the airways do not close up which would cause difficulty breathing for your pet.
