Q: My Puppy Eats Too Fast!
Q: Can you tell me the best way to stop my 5 month old puppy from gorging? She practically inhales her food and doesn't chew anything! She is a rescue dog from
A: One of the easiest things to do would be to buy a special food dish designed to stop this problem. One company called brake-fast carries these bowls. If you want to continue using your regular bowls you can also try to add rocks that are too large to swallow to the food so that your puppy has to work her way around them. Sometimes is it even a good idea to avoid a bowl and try feeding from a flat surface so that she cannot grab as much food at once.

IS IT A LARGE BREED OR SHORT BREED?

I had a rescue puppy who started out the same way. Puppies need to eat 3 times a day and after a month or so my puppy realized she was always going to have food and didn't have to worry. Now she eats when she feels like it. Rescues can often times feel very insecure for a bit, be patient and give treats often. I found this helps the need to eat so much.

My yorkie is 9 years old and she still does that. It's like she better hurry or someone might get her food.

has your puppy been dewormed recently? If it has parasites they are eating the food you're feeding the puppy. I suggest you take it to a vet for a checkup just to be sure. I keep dry food out all the time for my 8 dogs, that way they can just snack anytime. Rescues tend to be very hungry at first, but then when they realize it will always be there they don't gulp it all down.....

My three year old male cocker spaniel does this also . I on saw the whisperer the same thing and he told them just take the food strait up and away every time they do this and it helps a little.
