Preparing for Natural Disasters and Emergencies

In the event of a hurricane, tornado or other emergency situations, it's important to be prepared.

Make sure you have the essential pet supplies and are ready to evacuate with your pets if necessary. Below is a list of supplies you need to have on hand in case of emergency. Remember to keep emergency kits by exits or in cars for fast evacuation.

1) Bottled water

2) Extra collar and leash

3) A one week supply of dry or wet food- be sure to replace dry food after a few months

4) A recent picture of your pets incase you are separated

5) Current medical and vaccination records in a water proof bag. You can also laminate copies of the records for safe, dry keeping. It's important to keep your pets current on all shots.

6) A one week supply of your pets' medications: Replace medicine every few months so it doesn't expire.

7) Traveling food and water bowls

8) Clean-up bags

9) Pet first aid kit

10) Updated tags or microchip on your pet

11) Small blanket

12) Crate or carrier. Pets housed in emergency shelters must be contained.

13) Kitty litter

Remember to evacuate before the government orders you to. If a government mandatory evacuation is ordered, you may not be able to take your pet.
