How Can I Tell If My Dropped Kitten Is Okay?

Q: My daughter dropped one of our kittens. How can I tell if he's okay?

A: It is very important that if you are concerned that your cat has been injured you seek veterinary attention. In the meanwhile, there are a couple of things you can check for at home.

The first thing you should do is look for any obvious bleeding. If there is active bleeding, apply gentle pressure to the area while transporting your cat to a veterinary facility. Kittens have very fragile bones that can break easily, especially when dropped. If you notice that your kitten is limping it is possible that something is broken.

Another cause for concern would be difficulty breathing. If this occurs it is considered an emergency and your cat must be taken to the vet right away. If your kitten has sustained any type of head injury this is also considered an emergency.
