Can dogs get STDs?
Q: Can dogs get STDs? I want to breed my Yorkie and the vet said I need to make sure the other dog doesn't have one.
A: Before breeding your pet both dogs should be tested for Brucella. This is a bacteria that can cause dogs to abort. This bacteria is also transmissible to humans so there is a public health concern. The only other sexually transmitted disease would be TVT (transmissible venereal tumor.) Your veterinarian could diagnose this by examining for TVT. This seems to be more common in free roaming dogs but your veterinarian could easily diagnose this.
