What Could Be Causing My Dog To Have Red, Bloodshot Eyes?

Q:strong> My Boston Terrier, Sushi, has red bloodshot eyes. What could be causing this to happen?

A:strong> Are your dog's eyes bothering her or do they seem to be itchy? Sometimes allergies can do this just like it can in humans. Some dogs also just have eyes that are more bloodshot than others. It is possible that she has an underlying conjunctivitis or other eye problem which can be easily diagnosed by your veterinarian.

My dog's eyes just started turning red, watery and wants to keep them closed. She is rubbing them. What could cause this?

My boston had the same thing and we went to a pet store and got eye drops and some bacterial ointment and it went away within a week and hasnt came back. we moved to another state and I think it was just allergies and getting used to it. It cost like $16 total but way cheaper than going to a vet. Try it!! Hope that helps

my dog Lucky will get red eyes not only from hay fever but shortly after eating different treats. It may be a food allergy, pay attention if your dogs eyes turn red shortly after eating a particular type of food. good luck!

I've had Bostons my whole life. Eye wash and eye ointment will do the trick.
Also, keep dye free Benydryl on your shelf. It helps with allergies, and some Bostons are allergic to bug bites-give them Benydryl in an eye dropper depending on their weight.
My girl is 17 lbs, and she gets 1/2 tsp. 2x a day.

My dog has two slightly red eyes. Her breed is
Shih-Tzu and was once diagnosed as having a condition of extra upper eye lashes. Because of this condition, I would like to know if her blood shot eyes are life threatening or can I just ignore it.

Our boston get bloodshot eyes when she gets tired, just like people, doesn't bother her at all. Maybe yours is just tired.
