Should I let my vet perform a lumpectomy on my dog?
Q: My Jack Russell Terrier has a fatty tumor on her belly. The vet wants to do a lumpectomy. Should I let her do it or is the anesthesia too risky?
A: If your vet has examined your pet and deemed her healthy she probably will do just fine. Routine blood work should be checked before any anesthetic procedure to check kidney and liver function as well as a complete blood count. Anesthesia in general is very safe but of course there are risks with it just as there are in humans.
