Can I Give Benadryl To My Cat Who Won't Let Me Clip Their Nails?
>Q:strong> I have a cat who will not let us cut her nails. She hisses and growls and acts like we are killing her. Someone said to give her Children's Benadryl to relax her and I was wondering if that was ok? I don't want to hurt her.
A: Benadryl will not necessarily hurt your cat, but it may not provide enough sedation to get the nails cut. Try wrapping your cat in a towel (like a burrito) and have another person cut the nails. If she gives you too much of a hard time you can ask your veterinarian to give you a sedative that will really quiet her down for the process!

the vet said he could not cut her nails, she went so crazy, screeching, squealing, and rolling over even after they tried to use the towel wrap method.

Both liquid and pill form work for cats. If your cat has figured out pill pockets, a dropper can work though they're still gonna be aggravated as they tend to drool excessively from it. My best advice would be to get the children's liquid benadryl but I was told NOT to use the grape flavor by my vet. If you can mix that with a very aromatic wet food, you'll probably get them to take it. I'd still suggest the "burrito" method as stated above but when clipping the nails you just need to be careful to not cut them back into the quick as it can cause pain/infection. :-)
