Low Shed Dog Breeds

If you love dogs, but not the hair that sheds on the floor, don't worry! There are a number of low shed dog breeds to choose from that won't leave a furry mess in your home.

Here are some picks for low shed dog breeds:

Bichon Frise - This sweet, loving dog has virtually no shedding whatsoever. However, you do have to be concerned about professional grooming every month and brushing a few times a week to prevent matting.

Chinese Crested - With virtually no hair except a crest on the head and tufts at their feet, there's very little fur that will shed. The Chinese Crested dog is a shy dog that will do fine with some indoor playing every day. There is also a powder puff variety of the Chinese Crested dog that has fur, but minimal shedding.

West Highland White Terrier - This breed makes a good companion dog and barely sheds at all. However, a professional groomer is necessary to maintain the standard look of a West Highland White Terrier.

If you're concerned about allergies, remember that it is usually an animal's dander, not fur that causes the sniffles. So even if a dog sheds very little, they still may not be allergy friendly.
