Pixiebob

The Pixiebob cat is a breed that originates in the United States, and comes in both Shorthair and Longhair varieties.

The goal of the breeding program for the Pixiebob is to emulate the characteristics of the North American Bobcat. In the breeding, however, there are no wild cats used.

In order for the cat to retain a bobcat-like appearance, it has to have a rectangular and thick-boned frame, with the fur pattern and color of Brown Spotted Tabby, the only accepted color for the breed.

As a result of its frame, the Pixiebob is a medium to large-sized cat.

Other physical characteristics that separate the Pixiebob from other cat breeds is its short tail, spotted stand-out coat, deep wide-cupped ears, and its inverted pear-shaped head that resembles the bobcat. It also has heavily-hooded, deep set eyes.

As far as temperament, Pixiebobs are social creatures that can be considered moderately active. They are playful with other animals, and are known for their "chirps," chatters and growls. Surpringly, they are not known to meow too often.

Personality wise, Pixiebobs are trustworthy and loyal, devotedly loving their owners.

Pixiebob Quick Facts

The Pixiebob was originally claimed by breeder Carol Ann Brewer to be tied genetically to naturally occurring bobcat hybrids. Later, it was found that this was not the case, and that Pixiebobs are wholly domestic, with the main purposes of being owned in homes, cat fancy registration, import and export.
