Is Your Cat a Television Addict?

Published August 25, 2010
What I enjoy the most about my cat-loving Internet pals is their fantastic imagination and delightful sense of humor. So I was sitting in front of my desktop, sipping my morning coffee, harvesting a luscious crop of tomatoes from my virtual garden, and preparing to bake some fabulous mushroom pizza, when all of a sudden I was startled by an instant message sent by my friend, Rosi. Now mind you, I am half asleep while trying to grab all the plots of ripe and succulent fruits, and I'm clicking away at a record-breaking speed with my handy-dandy harvester. So for a change, at that moment, I was not thinking, "cats". OK it happens from time to time. Rosi sounded pretty excited in her IM, saying, "I have a great idea for a blog item for you". Waking up immediately, my interest piqued. I responded "great! What is it?" Rosi replied by asking, "do your cats watch TV?" I thought to myself, "of course they do!" and shot her back a message, "great topic! Which of your cats is a TV addict?" It turns out that Rosi's brown and black tabby cat, Tigger, is totally fascinated by Cat Woman. It would seem that this program would be a purrfect show for a feline. However, in our house, the only television hound (pardon the expression) is Trouble, aka Hubble, our white Oriental Shorthair. Hush Puppy, on the other hand, could care less about the big screen HD television set in our living room, and much prefers hunting Palmetto bugs. I have to admit I found it rather hard to believe that Tigger's attention was drawn to anything resembling a human being since Hubble is only interested in watching animals in motion featured on Animal Planet, Discovery, or the Science Channel. If they are not moving, he ain't interested! And with a big kitty yawn he closes his beautiful blue eyes and instantly indulges in one of his other favorite past times: napping. I needed proof! Not wanting to appear that I doubted her veracity, I carefully cloaked my disbelief by asking Rosi if she happened to have a photograph of Tigger watching "Cat Woman". I elaborated on my request by telling her it would be ever so useful in illustrating the blog item for the benefit of our readers. Following my request, Rosi stopped typing, and for several moments our messaging came to an abrupt end. But knowing Rosi, she was away from her computer, grabbing her camera to send me a picture. Within 10 minutes, an email arrived in my mailbox, with an attached photograph of Tigger sitting on her laptop with her wide-screen television clearly displaying "Cat Woman". Folks, they say "the proof is in the pudding" and a "picture is worth a thousand words", but I am not completely convinced! Is it possible that this photograph may be "doctored"? But even if it isn't totally legitimate, it gets her point across, don't you agree? Do your cats watch television, and do they also have a favorite show? Leave a comment and tell us about it. No comment on that cute picture but the term "photoshopped" does come to mind! LOLOLOLOL My guys could care less what is on TV, what my Shadow wants is to be on ME while I'm watching TV! Stella is indifferent at this time,

Samuda loves car chases (well, what guy doesn't?) and he and Suha adore anything with fish, birds, or...cats. They will sit raptly enjoying most nature programs, actually. None of us likes anything with (dogs), especially if they are yapping.

I have a Shih Tzu named "Oscar". He not only watches TV, but if his head is burried under the blanket, he knows when a commercial with any critter is coming on because of the music. He immediately fights his way out of the covers and starts barking at the TV. I can't even watch "Animal Planet".

Years ago, I had a cat named Angel who loved to sit on my lap and watch television. When things moved on the screen, she would try to touch them with her paws. I've had many cats, but this was the only one who really enjoyed the TV.

Our cat, Miss MOuse, loves to watch Animal Planet. She seems interested in all the shows. Her favorite though is on the Discovery Channel. She is entranced with the Dog Whisperer. Maybe because she still remembers our dog, Muggsi. They were fast friends.
