Why I Can't Stand the Cat Bowling Game

Published October 28, 2010
Playing those wonderfully creative animated online games can be a lot of fun, albeit quite addictive. With card games, board games, puzzles and crosswords, many of which are interactive, gamers can play to their hearts' content. Purrsonally, I can fritter away my precious time amusing myself with one of my favorites, Farm Town, on Facebook. This is to say the least, a popular game which has already attracted over 9 million fellow farmers. I diligently collect eggs, tend to all my animals, plant and harvest an abundance of crops and flowers, and sell the merchandise I produce in the huge number of factories I own, which produces a wide variety of goods. In fact, I recently even added a veterinary clinic on one of my farms to make sure that all my critters receive the best of care, and a blacksmith shop so my horses' tootsies are always in tip top condition. But recently I was reminded about a game I consider so distasteful and abhorrent I was compelled to write about it. It is a Halloween-themed bowling game, called "Cat Bowling". The cats are the pins. So when someone emailed me the game knowing I am an extremely passionate cat lover, I was totally flabbergasted! Now some folks may think I am overly sensitive and have no sense of humor, but I fail to see anything marginally funny about a game that even hints at promoting cruelty to animals. In fact, while it may be a remote possibility, some children might even attempt to replicate the game in real life, assuming it is perfectly OK since the game is now being so widely circulated around the Internet. I have to wonder about what prompted the game designers to create this. Obviously they didn't stop to think about the real danger of torture and injury to which cats are at risk, especially around Halloween time. Do they hate cats, or they just don't care? They state on the site, "We like cats!" but I have to wonder, because if they really gave a hoot, they could have easily created adorable bowling pins made of pumpkins, apples, ghosts or goblins. So am I really being over reactive, or hitting the nail on the head? What do you think? Leave a comment with your opinion. Image Source: Flickr user riptheskull

Yup. Overreacting. I've seen a version that has elves and a Christmas theme, it didn't make me want to really harm elves. Roll your eyes and move on.

OK, being upset about this really is overreacting. It reminds me of when my uncle wouldn't let my cousin watch CatDog when he was a little kid because he might try it with a cat ad dog, even though they didn't even have a cat or a dog

LOL. If this game inspires someone to abuse animals, a) They were already messed up in the head, and b) they were going to abuse them eventually anyways.

This is as DISGUSTING as "Swan Hockey". Some very, very sick people enjoy hurting animals. (Jeffrey Dahmer was one)

there is no way to replicate this in the real world. try to get even one cat to sit still while you slowly roll a large noisy ball towards it. FAIL! now do you believe this gets any easier by adding nine more cats?
