My cat is drooling. What should I do?

Q: My cat is drooling very badly. She's just started; she was fine one minute and now she's drenching everything she sits on. She doesn't act sick and she's eating. What could the problem be?

A: There are a couple of reasons that your cat is drooling.

The cause of your cat drooling could possible be as simple as she tasted something that she didn't like. When cats do this they can drool profusely. Anything new in your house that she may have been near like cleaners, soap in her food bowls, etc. could have gotten near her mouth.

It is also possible that there is something wrong with her teeth or that there is something stuck in the mouth. If your cat's drooling persists, your cat should be examined by your veterinarian who can perform a complete physical and oral exam.
