What Can We Do For Our Pug That Has "Star-Gazing" Spells?
Pug: Gettin Images
Pugs prone to star gazing may have a neurological or behavioral issue.
Q: We adopted a Pug and were told that she was prone to "star gazing."
We have noticed a spell or two every day that lasts about 5 seconds-10 seconds. What can we do for her?
A: Since you have had your Pug has she had routine blood work done? If not, your Pug should have this done as well as a blood test for a liver shunt. While the star gazing could be indicative of a neurological problem, it could also be behavioral and nothing to worry about.
If her blood work is completely normal you may wish to have your Pug examined by a veterinary neurologist. You may also try capturing one of her star gazing episodes on video to show your vet.

The golden planet Saturn stands to the upper right of the Moon as night falls this evening. The star Spica is a little closer to the Moon's upper left, and shows a pale blue color.-Jonathan Berkowitz
