Weddings, a Pet Affair

Published June 26, 2008

Yes, I’m revisiting the subject of pets participating in weddings. This is, after all, the month of June when all things romantical happen. I sent out a call for pet wedding experiences and received back a host of neat stories.

While d*gs most often participate in the ceremony itself, cats also play a role. A poster at www.thecatsite.com forums shared with me that her fiancé proposed with the assistance of her cat, Evie.

He simply attached the engagement ring to the cat’s collar--look close, it’s in the circle. “I’ll always remember who brought me my engagement ring!” she said. Later, the couple’s retired search d*g, a cocker spaniel named Peaches, served as the ring bearer in the wedding.

Another respondent sent me great pictures of their wedding. Tobi-Dawn Yandt and Damon Smith included all their own d*gs, and invited guests to bring their canine friends as well.

“My Havanese was my best dog, and the others in the crowd sat with different guests and helped give out programs and treats,” says Tobi-Dawne. She’s a dog trainer, writer, and photographer (www.caninecaptures.com). “They’re such a huge part of my life it wouldn’t make sense not to include them on such an important day.”

Enjoy more photos from Tobi-Dawne’s wedding below. Have you included your cats and/or d*gs in wedding plans? What about throwing parties with--or for--your pets? My Magic has a birthday next month and I’ve not yet decided how to celebrate.

He’d be happy with a bowl of people food, and a swim in the pond.
