Water Bowl Dogs: Does Your Dog Dive Into His Bowl?

Does your dog dig in and dive into his water bowl?
9-week old Sammy the Pembroke Welsh Corgi stopped by for the first time last week. He and Millie played vigorously for 10 solid minutes, at which time both dogs were ready for a drink. Millie took a few sips and then stepped back to let Sammy have a turn. Sammy drank for a second and then stopped.
“Hey!” he seemed to say. “This water bowl is awesome! I want to dip my paws in it!”
So he did. He dug at the water with such intensity that he nearly emptied the bowl all over my wood floor. His dedication to the job was adorable but messy.
Sammy isn’t the only Corgi I’ve known with a “drinking problem.” Maybe it’s the feeling of cool water on hot paws, or that fact that the water plays back when it’s touched, but a full bowl is an invitation to “swim” for many dogs.
Does your dog dig into his water bowl? Do you allow the behavior, or discourage it?

My dog used to do it all the time when we had a big bowl. Now that we have a smaller bowl, he does it less often. But when he does it, I tell him to stop. Makes a ridiculous mess!
Ive heard many stories saying its comon in huskies as well. My 4mo siberian husky Aurora digs in her bowl, its to cool themselves off I hear. Anyways. We bought hee a wading pool :-)
My Dog Uno plays in the tub in the same way as Sammy in that water bowl. Uno is part Corgi. He started leaping in the tub at around 3 months and looking at the faucet for me to turn it on. Soon as I do he starts drinking, and biting at the water. Then he chases the water around the tub. He digs at the drain trying to stop the water from going down the drain. If you put the drain plug in he will stick his head under water and pull it.
