I love volunteers!
My husband gave me a toy called "The Crazy Cat Lady." I have it on my desk and it reminds me that, though I have three of the most wonderful kitties in the whole universe, the urge is always there...lingering and festering inside....for more.
Is this a cat thing? I've never heard a dog owner (unless he was a breeder) say he wished he had a slew of poodles, or a bunch of Jack Russells. And I think that's because cats are so easy to have around. So, like the crazy cat lady, I'd love to have dozens more.

And I do-(most) Sundays, when I volunteer at a place called PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Society) in Norwalk, Connecticut. See, I figured if I can't surround myself with them here at the house, the next best thing is to go visit-and help out-at my local shelter. My friend, Maggie Swanson, who'd probably spend all her waking hours there if she didn't have her own kitties, Tommie and Gracie to care for, and a slew of children's books to illustrate, sums it up like this:
"We hope the cats get new families fast, but for those couple of hours on Sunday mornings, they're all ours." Oh, there are cages to be cleaned, food to be prepared, and laundry to be washed (things I'd never do at home). But the rewards are plentiful. I get to spend time with dozen of different cats and play swat the mouse with the kittens. My puddies came from PAWS, so they put up with this little digression. They know how it feels to homeless.
Bottom line? There are probably shelters in your area that could use a bit of help...even if it's just to socialize the newcomer cats. It's a great way for those of us who want more....to have them all.
