A new viral video shows a lion at the Oregon Zoo trying to eat a baby who must have looked like a zebra. EDITOR'S NOTE: This is not the lion from the video.
If there hadn't been a glass barrier between them, one baby would have found themselves to be a lion's lunch.
In a new video loaded to YouTube, a lion at the Oregon Zoo appears to frantically try to get through the glass to eat a baby on the other side. The baby, clad in a white and black striped hoodie, must have resembled a zebra that in turn ignited the lion's predatory instincts.
Fortunately, the protective glass did it's job, and kept the child from harm. But the actions of the parents, and those who took the video, are still under questioning.
Rather than moving their child from the lion's sight, the parents left their child out as the lion continued to bound against the glass. Apparently, it was all for the sake of the video and capturing the film.
At one point in the video, one child in the background claims that what's happening is "almost not cool". She's right.
In avoiding what surely was a scary moment, the parents, rather than walking on and being thankful for the protective glass, leave their child out to almost taunt the lion, who is visibly frustrated. In our eyes, that just doesn't seem right to the animal. While we're not saying it's OK for the lion to view the baby as a potential meal, we also don't think that taunting the lion was completely necessary.
